Another tapas restaurant in Logan Circle! They won the 2013 Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence”.
My parents took me to this restaurant to sample their tapas (“little plates”). We sat at the wine bar and I had a mocktail while tasting the Jamon Serrano (dry cured Spanish ham), Valdeon (Cow’s and Goat’s Milk Blue Cheese), and Manchego (Sheep’s Milk Cheese from La Mancha). Just when I couldn’t imagine anything better, we tried one more thing … Crepas Salguero (Dulce de Leche crepes with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream!) — indescribably delicious! You will definitely want to visit Barcelona, especially when the weather is warmer and sit in their outdoor front lounge! There are other locations, check it out: http://www.barcelonawinebar.com.

Photography was discovered in the 1800s followed by cinematography and animation. They were black and white images that captured life and with a lot of emotion. Then the “Wonderful World of Color” exploded on the scene and transformed the industry and our lives. Color filled our universe with striking bold images and film that captivated and entertained us. But somehow, we never turned away from those black and white impressions that reflected and portrayed the emotion, sensation or attitude conveyed without color…leaving the onlooker to fill in the idea, the thought, the emotion of that photo. You are left to read and interpret the photographer’s mind!
It’s been a month since the Sochi Olympics but aren’t you a little curious about what the Olympians are doing now?! Well, I have an update: The Russian-born Swiss snowboarding gold medalist, Iouri Podladtchikov, better known as “I-Pod”, recently stayed at one of my favorite NYC hotels, “The Standard” in Meatpacking. (Just my luck…I was recently there too and missed my chance meeting!). It was his first trip to America. He had a couple of photo shoots, explored the city, and hung out with his friends and entourage in his hotel room…sharing great food or just playing his guitar. Even former gold medalist, Shaun White, joined the celebration. Congrats I-Pod for the gold medal.

It’s been a tragic week. We lost two great artists. Scott “Rock Action” Asheton, who co-founded and played drums for the influential 70’s punk band, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, passed away last Saturday at the age of 64. And L’Wren Scott, fashion designer and long time companion of Mick Jagger, died this morning in her NYC apartment. She was a famous stylist for celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Jessica Parker. She was 47. We will never forget you! Rest in peace.
Just in time to spring forward….Mmmmmm this smoothie is very nutritional. A great way to start your day. It contains a high level of antioxidants, vitamin C and other nutrients. And coconut water is perfect for hydration!
1/2 cup of strawberry banana juice
1/2 cup of coconut water
A splash of light coconut milk
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 cup of frozen mixed berries
1 scoop of 100% natural whey protein vanilla (or pick any different flavor)
1/2 of fresh banana (only yellow)
Directions: Place all the ingredients in the blender; Blend it for 20 seconds and pour into a tall glass! Makes one serving. Enjoy this 3-4 times a week for a boost of energy in the morning or afternoon!
There are a few things I’d like to say about the Oscars last night:
1.) My pick for the “Best Dressed” on the red carpet is Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway…but my favorite is…(drumroll)…Cate Blanchett in gold “Armani Prive” embroidered with Swarovski crystals! Congrats for her Best Actress Oscar in “Blue Jasmine”.
2.) Jared Leto’s speech about his family is the sweetest thing ever! Leto’s hair stood out for its shine, lived-in ease, and perfect hombre!
3.) Ellen DeGeneres posted an A-list Oscar group selfie and got 1.2 million re-tweets within a few seconds. Loved the part when she ordered pizza!
4.) Lupita Nyong’o is a fearless, talented and attractive black woman. Her fame has skyrocketed and she deserved to win as “Best Supporting Actress”. Seriously, I loved her blue dress (symbolic of peace from her childhood…always surrounded by blue), gold diamond headband, and bright lipstick.
5.) People are all over social media talking about Matthew McConaughey for his “Best Actor” Oscar in “Dallas Buyers Club”…bringing to light the desperation of so many people willing to do whatever it takes to live one more day!
6.) I flipped out with delight that “12 Years a Slave” won Best Picture!
What an amazing Sunday night at the Oscars!
