She was the founder of Ford Modeling Agency and became a world renowned modeling agency in the United States including Elite and Wilhelmina Cooper!
She was born in NYC and raised in Long Island. In her late teen years, she became a model during the summer for Harry Conover Modeling Agency while attending Barnard College. After graduation, she met a young soldier, Jerry Ford, and eloped in San Francisco, but the newlyweds were soon separated when World War II broke out and Jerry was sent overseas. Alone and pregnant, Eileen kept busy working, gaining knowledge and experience while switching jobs many times as a photographer, fashion stylist, copywriter, and a fashion reporter for the magazine, “Tobe Report,” and continued working even after the birth of her first daughter in 1947. When Jerry returned, he had no knowledge at all about the fashion industry but supported and joined Eileen to create her own modeling agency and the rest is history. Young models were eager and wanted to work with Ford and many became supermodels–Christie Brinkley, Janice Dickinson, Cindy Crawford, Gia Carangi and Evangelista. This week, Eileen Ford passed away at the age of 92. We will never forget you and the many lives changed because of you. Rest in peace.
